Javier Montiel

Born in Mexico City in 1954 in a family of musicians. He studied piano, violin and viola, graduating from Mexico’s Conservatory with honors in 1978.

As a soloist he has performed with Mexico’s leading orchestras.

Mr. Montiel is one of the founders of the prestigious Cuarteto Latinoamericano, with whom he has recorded over 50 CDs and performed all around the world since 1982. Mr. Montiel is also a composer and arranger. He has written works for voice and piano, viola and piano, cello and piano, choir etc. in 1996 he composed and premiered a concerto for viola and string orchestra.

His work Variations on Paganini´s 24 Caprice for string quartet has been recorded several times in cd, as well as performed and recorded for radio in many countries It is one of Cuarteto´s favorite encores.
